“Dung beetles are not only experts at transforming dung into food and persevering with strength when pushing a vital load... They also orientate themselves looking at the stars.
In ancient Egypt, they were a symbol of the soul going into the underworld and making its way back, reborn.
These sages seem indeed to know the secrets of the ground and of the heavens, the cycle of life, transformation, and the unfathomable value of a simple, humble and yet profound task. I can only hope that whenever I must die to myself, I can find in my heart a dung beetle, carrying me on its back, led by the Milky Way, turning and turning the corpses of my muddy shadows into new sacred food for the soul.”
